The Plenty Food Group was initiated in 2002 with the financial, in kind support and leadership of both the Cities of Hume and Whittlesea. In October 2005 the Group received its first round funding from the Victorian Government enabling the rapid growth of achievements and benefits returned to local food manufacturers, predominately through the appointment of a full time Plenty Food Group Co-ordinator. The annually running cost of the Plenty Food Group is approximately $100,000, with the Group delivering over $8m in local and international market growth, employment, cost reduction and special project benefits to businesses to date.
